Selection Criteria

Our Primary Project is to focus on children who are affected by disadvantage and who will benefit the most from this provision.

We aim to work with children who struggle with some of the following;

- Learning Difficulties

- Problematic home life

- Poor concentration

- Low self-esteem and confidence

- Exposure to abuse

- Disengagement from learning

- Behavioural or psychological issues

- Few opportunities due to economic disadvantage

  • For ages 8-11
  • Suitable for girls and boys
  • Pupils must be able to display appropriate behaviour to work safely in an outdoor environment if that is what their chosen activity involves.
  • Pupils should not be accessing any other form of emotional literacy/counselling during the placement

  • Pupils will attend one day a week for ten weeks. This will be the same day each week to follow a good structure and routine
  • Transport is provided to and from school by their coach if needed
  • 1:1 mentoring by a positive role model
  • Consistent coach each week to build a good relationship
  • Helps to build self-esteem and confidence
  • Active and practical lessons with limited distractions
  • Opportunities to learn practical skills and achieve success
  • Practical work helps to relieve stress which can increase their ability to learn
  • Benefits from being outdoors can improve well-being and mental health. This can help them to have a positive outlook and recognise their own potential
  • Emotional literacy sessions can be adapted to the individual needs of the child after discussion with the school
  • Literacy, Numeracy and ICT will be embedded in the lessons, through weighing, measuring, counting, research, printing photographs and writing a diary or doing project work.
  • A comprehensive daily report is emailed to the school at the end of the session.

  • A Project book to evidence what they have learnt throughout the sessions.
