Qualifications

Within our term-time alternative curriculum provision, we offer the following  qualifications:

 

Any Subject

 

Gateway Qualifications, Level 1, Improving Own Learning and Performance (Code - D/504/9497) (2 credits) (6 week course) This can be done as a six week course or at the start of a longer course.  It helps us to identify the young person’s  favoured learning styles and interests and gives the young person the chance to express their unique intelligence and what they might be looking to do in the future. This qualification is used in all courses.

Gateway Qualifications, Level 1 Award in Peer Mentoring (Code - 601/2767/3) (4 credits) (6 week course) This comprises 2 units: Understanding Peer Mentoring (2 credits) and Peer Mentoring Practice (2 credits). This qualification is linked to gaining personal skills and knowledge, passing on skills and knowledge to others and contributing to an event. This qualification can be used in all courses.

Gateway Qualifications, Entry Level 3, Award in Preparation for Employment (Code - 600/9131/9) (6 credits) or Certificate in Preparation for Employment (Code - 600/9132/0) (13 credits) This qualification is made up of a variety of units and is aimed at mainly year 11 students who want to build up skills and knowledge to help them secure a job or college placement. This qualification can be used in all courses.

Gateway Qualifications, Entry Level 3, Award in Progression (Code - 600/8911/8) (3 credits) or Certificate in Progression (Code – 600/8912/X) (15 credits) This qualification includes a variety of units which can be adapted  depending on a student’s interests and number of sessions available. This qualification can be used in all courses.

Gateway Qualifications, Level 1, Award in Progression (Code - 600/8914/3) (6 credits) or Certificate in Progression (Code -600/8915/5) (21 Credits) This qualification includes a variety of units which can be adapted depending on a student’s interests and number of sessions available.  This qualification can be used in all courses.

Angling

 

Gateway Qualifications, Entry Level 3, Award in Progression (Code - 600/8914/3) (6 credits) This comprises of 2 units : The Angling Environment   (3 credits) and Developing Angling Skills. (3 credits)  This can be done as a 12 week course or at the start of a longer course.  It is particularly suitable for students who are engaging well through the median of angling or interested in a career in the angling industry or outdoor work.

BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Fish Husbandry (Code - 500/8358/2) (30 credits) (Full academic year course for 1 day a week) 2 GCSE Equivalent at Grades A-C.  This comprises 3 units: Introduction to Game and Coarse Angling  (10 credits) Participate in Providing Estate Maintenance (10 credits) Undertake Work Experience in the Land-Based  Industries which also involves CV and job application writing and searching for relevant jobs (10 credits).

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Fish Management (Code - 500/8286/3) (30 credits) (Full academic year course for 1 day a week) Comprises 3 units: Understanding Aquatics Management (10 credits) Understanding Coarse, Game and Sea Fishing techniques (10 credits) Understanding Fishery Management (10 credits). A good progression route for students that have excelled on the Level 2 BTEC. Suitable for Year 11’s or above.

 

Art and Crafts

 

Gateway Qualifications, Level 1, Award  in skills  for Art and Design (Code - 600/9207/5) (6 credits) (12 week course), or Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Art and Design (Code - 600/9116/2) (25 credits) (full academic year course for 1 day a week) These qualifications include a variety of units relating to arts and crafts. This is an adaptable qualification and is aimed at students with an interest in arts or crafts. An example of units to be included are: Creative Craft Skills (3 credits) and Working in Art and Design (3 credits).

Other Qualifications are available at Entry Level 3 and can be adapted to suit a student’s ability.

 

Cycling and Bike Maintenance

 

Gateway Qualifications, Level 1 Award in Progression (Code - 600/8914/3) (6 credits) (12 week course) This is an adaptable qualification and is aimed at students with an interest in cycling and bike maintenance. An example of units to be included are:  Using Teamwork Skills (3 credits), Map Reading Ordnance Survey Maps (2 credits) and Taking Part in an Activity (1 credit).

Gateway Qualifications - Individual units available - Entry Level 3 Clean and Prepare a Cycle for Use (1 credit),  Level 1 Repair a Cycle Puncture (1 credit), Level 1 Remove and Repair a Cycle Rim Brake Assembly (2 credits).  The credits for these individual units can be built up towards a student achieving an Award or Certificate in Progression.

 

Aquarium Systems

 

OATA Qualifications  - Certificates in Water Quality, Filtration, Fish Biology and Fish Health. These qualification are aimed at individuals who have an interest in aquarium systems  and may want to pursue a career in this industry.

 

Horticulture

 

Gateway Qualifications - Individual units available - Cultivating plant cuttings, planting in a container , recognise trees and plants, soil types and garden habitats, sowing and growing plants, use and maintain garden tools, garden maintenance skills, plant propagation skills. The credits for these individual units can be built up towards a student achieving an Award or Certificate in Progression.

 

Cookery

 

Gateway Qualifications, Entry Level 3, Basic Cooking (R/505/3580) (2 credits) This qualification comprises of 1 unit. It covers: selecting correct ingredients; Health and Safety and safe and hygienic cooking.  Other cooking units/qualifications at Entry Level 3 or Level 1 can be done over longer periods.

 

Photography

 

Gateway Qualifications, Level 1, Award in Skills for Art and Design (Code - 600/9207/5) (6 credits) (12 week course) or Level 1, Certificate in Skills for Art and Design (Code - 600/9116/2 (25 credits) (full academic year course for 1 day a week) These qualifications include a variety of units relating to photography. These qualifications are adaptable and aimed at students with an interest in Photography. An example of units to be included are: Digital Photography (4 credits) and Creative Craft Skills (3 credits).

Other Qualifications are available at Entry Level 3 and can be adapted to suit a student’s ability.

 

Sport and Active Leisure

 

Gateway Qualifications, Level 1, Award in Skills for Sport and Active Leisure (Code - 600/9222/1) (6 credits) (12 week course) or Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Sport and Active Leisure (Code - 600/8852/7) (25 credits) (full academic year course) These qualifications include a variety of units relating to sport and active leisure. These qualifications are adaptable and aimed at students with an interest in sport. An example of units to be included are: Taking Part in Exercise and Fitness (4 credits) and Exercise as Part of a Healthy Lifestyle.

Other Qualifications are available at Entry Level 3 and can be adapted to suit a student’s ability.
